Its been a while .. again..

I didn’t realize I haven’t posted anything here in 8 months .. really ? I think about it , put it on my to – do list and then I don’t do it , obviously !

But it’s time I try to post here at least once a month – we’ll see , how much I hang on to that.Summer just flew by . We had a bunch of trips – Shenandoah Valley , New York City , Pittsburgh .The highlight of the trip was Falling Water, Bear Run .

Anyway, it’s back to school today – which means, a whole new school year . I might just have some chunks of time to myself during the day and someone doesn’t ask for food , or is bored or wants something done right away !

It means I have a middle schooler (!) and one in elementary . It means fall is around the corner. Cooler , crisp weather is on its way . Football will be on TV nonstop – my son and husband love football. I love fall , it is my most favorite time of the year . The color of the leaves just fills me with so much energy and I like to pour it all in my sketches . It also means New York Fashion Week is pretty soon . woo hoo! A whole bunch of fresh dose of inspiration to sketch .

It’s a good segway into Fashion week , since I started warming up this past week with a few illustrations from Lakme Fashion Week . Here’ are a few of them . I used my favorite mediums – watercolors and pen to illustrate these sketches.

I was good about getting a work in progress for one of them 🙂 I’m so proud of myself that I remembered to do this .

This one is Sushmita Sen in Sunita Shanker x RMKV Silks. It’s a reversible silk sari – a jumpsuit sari . Oh and once upon a time,  I was a blushing bride in RMKV silk sari , as well 🙂

The one below is an Anushree Reddy lehenga . I love her designs — They are very soft and feminine . This illustration is of Malaika Arora Khan in Anushree Reddy’s design.

This post has to be the first of more , this year – I pray ! I fall off the wagon . But I must get back on it . Have a great week , my friends ! I’ll post my favorite looks from New York Fashion Week , for sure.

Haute Couture Week SS/16

Hey guys,

It’s February .. how did that happen ?

Like I mentioned in my last post, there was so much to sketch from the Haute Couture Week at Paris . So much. I loved sketching the dresses. I wish I had more time sketch . I wasn’t able to get to all of my favorites. Maybe I will , slowly.

So here are some of my top favorites.. In no particular order – I guess, just in the order that I sketched them.

I had posted Irinia Shayk for Versace in my last post. But I think she should also be included in this post , don’t you agree ? – to keep them all in one spot .

Armani debuted gorgeous hues – call them lilac, purple, lavender – whatever you will. I loved the silouhetttes and the gorgeous patterns in them. They did an awesome job with the hair as well – in this model’s case – very retro.

Elie Saab

Elie Saab captured my heart with this collection – Enter India. Well, any collection that has been inspired by India, already has my attention ! I have seen objects/ ideas/ clothes ‘inspired’ by India previously . mmm , not really , folks !

Elie Saab , maintained his identity and style but infused his inspiration into it seamlessly . The result was simply gorgeous.

Zuhair Murad

Zuhair Murad

What can I say about Zuhair Murad  ? His collection had gorgeous fabric, beautiful colors ranging from pastels to bright reds. Both these sketches of Zuhair Murad were very appreciated on Instagram. I am so thankful to everyone who liked, commented and interacted with me on these pieces. I got lost in them, as I was sketching them. Really enjoyed the process. Such is the magic of these designers !

Elie Saab

This dress is worthy of a princess. I loved it. I loved detailing it and thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s not only Elie Saab but its so beautifully crafted in an Indian way. The perfect blend.

Lastly, Giambatissta Valli. Tulle – whats not to love ?! These dresses were making their rounds on the internet.  Every illustrator’s dream , right ? They’ve been sketched in every angle , possible . I tried a different angle – at least I think , it hasn’t been sketched from these angles !

Giambattista Valli

So for all these illustrations, I basically grabbed every art media I could to interpret them the best way the designer envisioned them. I used watercolors, marker pens, pens, gel pens, acrylic paints, inks .. I guess that just about covers it.

Lately, I have been on Snapchat a lot. I show a lot of behind the scenes, works in progress on it. Its fun for me to share and interact with people who are interested in what I do. So come join me on it. My username is lakshsarkar on SnapChat. I look forward to Snapping with you – is that how its supposed to be ?! I won’t snap , I’ll chat – hows that ? 🙂

Live Sketching

Hello lovelies, I’ve been keeping real busy the last few weeks both on the home front side and the Illustration side.

A few days ago , as I was on Instagram , one late night – as one would be … I came across a local Magazine’s feed –SALYSÉ ‘ . I saw that they had a Behind the Scenes event for their next issue’s photo shoot. I got in touch with the editor , and as luck would have have it, she invited me over to sketch the shoot live ! How fun .

So I loaded up my sketching supplies on a Saturday afternoon and drove over to Arlington, VA where the shoot was scheduled. Sonya, the editor, was lovely and made me so comfortable . I sketched the models as they were getting their make up on and while the shoot was in progress. I even sketched some of the guests who attended the event.

My pens, markers were busy from the time I got there. I sketched for 4 full hours. Between the models, guests , stylists, photographers, it was a busy place.

Each sketch was almost always under 5 minutes. I had to work fast and furious before the model changed the pose. What I most enjoyed was sketching when the model /guest was completely unaware that I was sketching them. They were themselves and and relaxed , which I was able to translate into my sketch. The reaction when I showed them my sketch was pure joy !

You’ll see these lovely gowns in the upcoming issue of SALYSÉ .

I have another sketching event that I’ll post soon.

If you would like my live sketching services for holiday parties , promo events, weddings , trade shows etc, please contact me for bookings and rates via email – lsartillustration(at) – or the Contact form on this website.

I’m also taking any custom illustration requests. They make great Christmas gifts ! But hurry , and get them in , if you’d like them to be mailed to you on time !

Until next time,

Street Style Illustrations MFW & PFW

My opinion – some of the best runway looks are OFF the runway . Below are some of the chic, stylish, trendy looks from these fashionistas on their way to see, write about, or photograph shows – sketched by me.

I like to capture the movement of the fabric , the energy of the person , the strong lines and features of the subject and last , but not the least, the colors . I hope you like them as much as I enjoyed sketching them .

Swirly- Wurly all done !

Its National Donut Day, Y’all  and its a Friday … so we should basically pig out , right ?

Fact : I loved donuts.. until I realized it started to show on me :-/ So I work out everytime I think of eating donuts and don’t act on that craving .

But , nothing wrong in feasting your eyes on this donut … feast away , its zero calories  and  a whole lot of love with patterned sprinkles on it .

Donut with some amazing sprinkles worked in. (

Have a great weekend !

Artful journey

After much contemplation , I have decided to blog my work again . I will share my artwork .. more visuals, less words. So hopefully, my use of color, pattern, art , sketches will brighten your day – a just a moment’s reprieve from everyday life.

The works below are from 2 years ago  – acrylic paintings that I made when I lived in Sydney, Australia. I am currently drowned in watercolors and I am loving it.
